Study Abroad in Berlin, Germany
Berlin is the largest city and capital of Germany, located in the northeastern region on the banks of the rivers Spree and Havel. With a population of approximately 3.7 million people, Berlin is a world city of culture, politics, media and science. Modern Berlin is home to world renowned universities, orchestras, museums, entertainment venues and is host to many sporting events. The city is well known for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts and a high quality of living.
You can be part of a group of students from »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË College, and other colleges, to spend spring quarter in Berlin while earning 15 credits. Students will take a course in German Life and Culture as well as two other sociology classes that will be offered. Continue on with your studies while living in one of the most vibrant cities in the world.
While a formal German language course is not offered on this program, we strongly recommend you take German 121 or higher before going! Having a foundational knowledge of the language will help you feel more comfortable navigating the city and will greatly enhance your cultural immersion experience.

SOC&101/201: Intro to Sociology – Berlin: Memory, Art & Entertainment
Explore Berlin as a living classroom to study democracy, fascism, genocide, surveillance, and collective memory. Visits include the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Wall, Sachsenhausen, Holocaust Memorial, and Stasi Museum. Students also analyze Berlin’s cultural life—sports rivalries, food traditions, and techno nightlife—as expressions of resistance, identity, and social change. -
SOC 161: Sacred Crossroads – Exploring World Religions in Berlin
Study diverse religious and non-religious traditions through site visits, guest speakers, and reflective activities. Locations include mosques, synagogues, cathedrals, Stolpersteine, Bonhoeffer-Haus, and meditation centers. Focus on how belief systems shape meaning, culture, and justice. -
German Culture Class
Taught by local faculty, providing additional cultural and historical context.
